The Stanford Prison Experiment

Synopsis: The Stanford prison experiment was a study of human responses to captivity and behavioral effects on prison guards and inmates. Conducted by a team of researchers led by Philip Zimbardo at Stanford, undergrad volunteers played roles of both guards and prisoners in the basement of the Stanford psychology building. Within a day things got out of hand, and the “guards” used brute force on many of the inmates. The study was cancelled after 6 days instead of the planned 14
